Meta Housing reimagines a dilapidated, early 1900s building in Los Angeles, transforming it into a community for 82 individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness.

The original Lodge, built in 1912, was in disrepair. The owner, The People Concern, partnered with Meta Housing to create a new development to house the original Lodge residents, as well as new residents experiencing homelessness and chronic homelessness within the surrounding Skid Row neighborhood. The partnership temporarily relocated residents of the Lodge and replaced the old building with 82 new, thoughtfully designed units. The new building contains a central courtyard and plenty of community space for new and returning residents.

The People Concern provides onsite supportive services, funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Housing for Health program.

Critical case management services help residents build tenancy skills and independent living while connecting them with community-based healthcare and treatment.

Meta Housing worked with the Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) and California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to refinance and repurpose existing loans and a ground lease to leverage 9% tax credits for the new construction. Additionally, Meta Housing secured critical funding from the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) for the construction of the new units. Rental vouchers are provided by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County Department of Health Flexible Housing Subsidy Pool.
