Meta Housing is coming to the end of a banner year of activity, marking the groundbreaking, completion, and grand opening of several new developments, along with the recognition of several development partnerships and anniversary celebrations.
“We are incredibly proud of the work we have completed this year and our ability to deliver high-quality affordable housing communities in some of the most underserved areas of the country to some of the nation’s most vulnerable populations,” says Kasey Burke, President of Meta Housing. “The Meta team is looking forward to an even more prosperous and productive 2024.”
The firm broke ground on two affordable housing communities in Concord, California this year: the 56-unit Concord Apartments and the 181-unit Blue Oak Square. The two developments bring a total of 237 affordable housing units to the Bay Area of Northern California—a market with a strong need for this asset type. Concord Apartments provides 100% permanent supportive housing to serve individuals and families in the area who are facing homelessness, while Blue Oak Square, which was also completed this year, provides affordable housing for individuals and families earning between 30% and 70% of the area’s median income.
Meta Housing also finalized construction on Mission on Mosaic, a 140-unit mixed-use affordable housing community in Hayward, California, and the firm’s eighth arts colony, Washington Arts Collective in Los Angeles, California, is currently in pre-development. Arts colonies make up a significant segment of the affordable housing communities that the firm develops.
As of mid-year 2023, Meta Housing had secured $31 million in LIHTC equity financing for Blue Oak Square and West Carson Apartments, a 230-unit affordable housing community in Torrance, California.
Also this year, Meta Housing partnered with The Foundation for Affordable Housing, Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA), Los Angeles Housing Department, California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, Capital One, Westport Construction, California Community Reinvestment Corporation, WSH Management, and Y&M Architects to develop Lucena on Court, a 46-unit affordable family housing development currently under construction in the Historic Filipinotown community of L.A.’s Echo Park neighborhood. Currently under construction, the project was recently featured in an article in the Los Angeles Business Journal about the renaissance of Echo Park over the past decade.
Meta Housing also recently partnered with Chase Community Development Banking on the development of LAMP Lodge Apartments, an 82-unit apartment community located in the Skid Row neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles which provides affordable and accessible housing to individuals and families who have faced the challenge of homelessness.
Further, in 2023 the firm celebrated the grand opening of LAMP Lodge, for which Meta Housing assembled the capital and managed the ground-up construction; Silva Crossing Apartments in Sylmar, consisting of 56 units of affordable housing; and Mosaic on Mission.
Additionally, Meta Housing celebrated the five-year anniversary of two of its developments: 127th Street Apartments, an 85-unit permanent supportive housing apartment community in Los Angeles, California, and El Segundo Boulevard Apartments, a 74-unit affordable housing apartment community in Los Angeles, California. Built using sustainable, “green building” principles, 127th Street Apartments caters to homeless or chronically ill homeless individuals in the L.A. area. The community is managed by John Stewart Company and offers a variety of amenities and communal areas, encouraging social interaction among its residents. El Segundo Boulevard Apartments, developed by Meta Housing in partnership with several other organizations and institutions, was designed to accommodate veterans and their families.
