The NoHo Senior Arts Colony is the third generation in Meta Housing Corporation’s unique and evolving ‘Arts Colony’ concept.
With this project, Meta Housing took its arts-focused senior living to a new level, making history by developing an apartment community in concert with a professional on-site theatre.
By partnering with a local, professional theatre company, Meta Housing was successful in not only delivering a unique, open-to-the-public theatre to the local community, but also in providing a new way for residents to get involved in the arts. The 78-seat professional theatre is now run by the award-winning Road Theatre Company, which puts on a series of professional plays and musicals each year. Residents, in turn, have the opportunity to get involved in everything from costumes to fully staged productions.
In addition to the theatre, the apartment community, which Meta Housing opened in late 2012, offers free creative arts classes run by longtime nonprofit partner, EngAGE.
EngAGE provides lifelong learning classes at many of Meta Housing’s developments, and Meta and EngAGE continue to collaborate on programming at the NoHo Senior Arts Colony. Residents enjoy professional-level arts classes in the community’s unique spaces, including visual arts studios, film editing rooms, rehearsal spaces, and more.
In addition to the property’s focus on the arts, the location of this new senior apartment community was selected by Meta quite purposefully for its art-focused environment. Located in the heart of the NoHo Arts District in the Los Angeles County city of North Hollywood, the neighborhood surrounding the development already possessed a strong arts community in its own right. Residents at the NoHo Senior Arts Colony have the luxury of walking to many nearby art galleries and professional theatres, as well as to art supply stores, acting, dance and art classes, as well as restaurants and shopping.
Meta Housing designed the property to feature luxury finishes and modern touches with one- and two-bedroom floor plans, featuring granite countertops, in-home washer and dryers, modern kitchen appliances, and a private balcony or patio. The property also offers an affordable housing option for a select number of units.
